Most of the time when a child is born with a defect people are quick to blame the mother or the father. Well, when it comes to Mermaid Syndrome is studied to come from the mother. In some studies scientist saw that some of the mothers had maternal diabetes and there was a failure of normal vascular supply from the largest artery in your body in the womb. The weird thing about it is that one woman had given vaginal birth to a stillborn baby with mermaid syndrome and the baby's karyotype, or the number and appearance fo chromosomes in the nucleus of eukaryotic cell. Also it can be inherited through out the family.
Chromosomal or Dna Mutation
Sirenomelia is actually a chromosomal mutation and depends of the blood flow to the child during the pregnancy.
positive or negative mutation
To me Mermaid Syndrome would be an negative mutation because the childs kidneys and bladders won't function correctly. Another thing is that most babies that are born with this syndrome are born stillborn or die soon after birth.
How do you know??
You can tell if your baby is going to have Mermaid Syndrome by going through fetal testing and fetal blood sampling.
Fetal Testing- A prenatal diagnosis or prenatal screening is testing for diseases or conditions in a fetus or embryo before it is born.
Fetal Blood Sampling- It is collecting blood form the umbilical cord before the birth of the child.
